AN SCUAB FRAOÍGH - Lorg na Scuaibe

Bunadh An Scuab Fraoigh mar ghrúpa ealaíne i 2015 nuair a cuireadh deireadh le Scéim Ealaíne Pobail an Phléaráca.

Bhí an ghrúpa ag teacht le chéile roimhe sin mar ceardlann péinteála ó 1993 agus nuair a d-tháinig an droch scéal go mbeadh deireadh leis an bPléaráca, rinne muid an cinneadh go ndéanfadh muid chuile iarracht chun an ghrúpa a choinneáil le chéile.

Tá timpeal is 20 ball againn, idir mná agus fir, sean agus óg (fiú amháin gadhar ó am go chéile!) agus is as áiteacha ó Cheantar na nOileáin go dtí Coill Sáile muid. Tagann muid le chéile sa gCrannóg i Ros Muc.

Bíonn taispeántas curtha i láthair againn chuile bhlian in áiteacha difriúla.

Scuab Fraoigh came together in 2015 when the community arts group ‘Pléaráca’came to an end.

The group had been coming together since 1993 and so could not consider disbanding after all that time, thus the birth of Scuab Fraoigh.

We have around 20 members – old and young, male and female and even the occasional dog! We come from an extensive area from Ceantar na nOileánn as far as Coill Sáile and hold an exhibition of our work annually in various venues.

Tamara Conneely

Tá mé ag sceitseáil mo chairde agus iad siúd timpeall orm i gcónaí. Tá mé ag obair le dath agus líne a dhéanamh leaganacha teibí ar a n-aghaidh, na portráidí atá i gceist a bheith chomh uathúil mar an duine ina suí dóibh. Tá mé ag obair i gouache, uiscedhathanna agus dúigh ar pháipéar, le aicrileach nó ola ar chanbhás. Is breá liom ag tástáil le mediums agus féachaint cé mhéad is féidir liom a imirt le dath agus a choinneáil ar an duine mar an fócas.

I’m always sketching my friends and those around me, and paint their portraits. I work with colour and line to make abstract versions of their faces, the portraits are meant to be as unique as the person sitting for them. I work in gouache, watercolours and inks on paper, with acrylic or oil on canvas. I love experimenting with mediums and seeing how much I can play with colour while keeping the person as the focus.

Ceangailte/ Connected

"Ceangailte / Connected" is ainm don ealaín suiteála seo. Bhí an gutháin mar cheangail idir mhuintir Chonamara agus an chuid eile den domhan. Tá sé ráite gurb é ceann de tairngreachtaí Naomh Colm Cille ná go mbeadh daoine sa todhchaí ag insint scéalta dá chéile ar mhaidí arda, nó "scéal i mbarr bhata". Bígí linn chun athchruthú a dhéanamh ar an tsean-chóras gutháin a bhí in úsáid fadó i gceantair tuaithe in Éirinn.

This installation is called "Ceangailte/ Connected", The telephone connected the people of Connemara with the rest of the world. It was said that one of the prophecies of St.Columcille was that in the future people will tell stories to each other on top of poles, “sceal mbarr bhata”, story on top of sticks. Come join us in recreating the early telephone experience in rural Ireland.
Artists Gabriel Henry and Noel Arrigan.

Helen Roberts

Is ealaíontóir í Helen Roberts atá cónaí uirthi in Iarthar na hÉireann. I láthair na huaire tá sí ina mac léinn lánfhásta, ag déanamh staidéar ar na healaíona comhaimseartha i CCAM, in Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Gaillimhe-Maigh Eo. Bhí staidéar déanta aici cheanna féin ar an Bhuantalmhaíoch agus úsáideann sí bunphrionsabail agus bunfhealsúnacht ón réimse sin (cúram daoine, cúram an Domhan agus “sciar cóir) agus í ag cruthú ealaíne. D'eascraigh na pictiúir seo (olaphictúir agus pictiúr uiscedhatha) ó am a chaith sí ag siúl sa ndúlra i mBearna agus sa gceantar thart timpeall.

Helen Roberts is an artist living in the west of Ireland. She is currently studying Contemporary Art at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media in Galway as a mature student. Her previous studies in Permaculture have led her to an interest in how the design principles and philosophical core of this approach (care of the Earth, care of people, and “fair share”) could be applied in artistic practice. Her oil and watercolour paintings were a result of exploring her local area of Barna and the surrounding region on foot.
